WE ARE A SMALL FAMILY BUSINESS
launched in 2016 by two “Beaux-Frères” creating Cyrano with some of the great houses of Armagnac, in Gascony, France.
We are introducing armagnac to the world with an obsessive attention to detail, meticulous craftsmanship, groundbreaking innovation, and inspirational simplicity. We make our armagnacs with an emphasis on clarity of flavor.
Cyrano defies the established idea of the category by creating a new standard of premium spirits, and by focusing on the bar first. Made from the finest grapes grown in the ancient soils of Gascony, in Southwest France. Hand-selected at harvest for high quality and peak ripeness. Soft pressing of the fruit, combined with temperature-controlled, slow fermentation, impart depth of flavors to the grape’s natural character.
Without the now well-established (sad) idea to over-distill, which strips away all the character, our armagnac is only distilled once or maximum twice, for retaining the unique character acquired during the fermentation process. Carefully discarding the beginning and end of the distillation, carving out the heart (coeur). Only the “coeur” will show, even to the most doubtful newcomer, the powerful elegance of our noble character.
CYRANO DE BERGERAC, THE PLAY
Cyrano is a soldier and a poet. He is heroic, romantic, and idealistic, combining outstanding courage, sword-fighting skill, resourcefulness, and a distinct sense of honor and justice. Cyrano defies arrogant authority and oppressive orders. He values honor, faith, morality and duty.
Our armagnac shares some of Cyrano’s qualities. Both come from a time when integrity and honor ruled supreme, and both have depth of character. Both are noble but not elitist. Both are spirits of values and of value. Both have a great nose.
Besides, a great nose is an indicator of a great soul and a of a great armagnac. Our armagnacs have its own unique identity and soul, just like Cyrano’s nose.
Let’s elevate the Nose to a heavenly status !
OUR STORY BEGUN IN 2013
when I became curious why the oldest brandy of France, armagnac, a noble spirit with a 700-year-old history was almost unknown outside its home country. That curiosity quickly evolved into a project to promote armagnac worldwide.
At that time, I was VP of a big French electronics Group, and lived with my wife and young children in Brazil. I was spending 70% of my time away from home feeling miserable and missing my family. One day, though, I had a conversation with my wife about happiness, and it would change our life in a fundamental way. At the end of 2014, to the general dismay of my colleagues and friends, I left the big corporation and moved to our house in the heart of the Armagnac region, in Gascony, Southwest of France.
As far as armagnac was concerned, any knowledge or experience I had was very limited hence I called Gianni, my brother-in-law, who is a Master Sommelier; a trader of wines & spirits; and owner of Madeo, one of the top restaurants in Los Angeles, California. He is the one who had the knowledge and experience and came out with the brilliant idea of crafting an armagnac exclusively designed for bars.
“Armagnac for mixing?” questioned the connoisseurs. “Not quite traditional… It’ll never work!”
Inspired by Cyrano de Bergerac, Gianni’s vision was to create the best possible spirit within a bottle to tell the story of armagnac with its unique heritage, and the masterful crafting that goes into the creation of each of our premium armagnacs – one that will make bartenders proud to pour for the next 700 years.
The bottle has an innate sense of respectability and French tradition. Its shape is tall, slim, and straight with balanced weight distribution. Simple to store, easy to pour and handle, particularly for ladies who have smaller hands than men.
Every detail of Cyrano was handcrafted, from the liquid to the hand-dipped wax seal. The opening has been specially designed to avoid fingers cut. A self-adhesive tear strip is horizontally applied for easily removing the wax seal. All designed for flair and mixing, for enabling bartenders to grab the bottle more safely and quickly from the bar.
We have created Cyrano following age-old traditions and putting the bar first.
What drives us is a lifestyle choice.
